Best Fall Foliage Spots Near Blue Sage Hideaway
Looks like the weather’s turning and as we say this every year and we’ll keep saying it: nobody believes how good fall in the Smokies is until they’ve actually seen it in person. Photos genuinely don’t do it justice — the light hits different up here in October.
Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail This one-way, 5.5-mile loop through the national park might be the single easiest way to see peak color without breaking a sweat. It winds past old log cabins and waterfalls, and in late October the canopy overhead turns into a tunnel of red and gold. Roll the windows down. Take it slow. There’s no rush here.
Morton Overlook This is our go-to for sunset. It’s a quick pull-off on Newfound Gap Road, but the view — layered mountain ridges fading into blue in the distance — is the kind of thing that makes people go quiet for a second. Time it for golden hour if you can.
Downtown Gatlinburg Even a walk through town gets you tree-lined views on every block, and there’s something nice about ducking into a warm shop when the mountain air turns crisp.
Honestly? Right From the Cabin We’re a little biased, but some of the best foliage we see all season is from our own porch swing. The whole hillside around Blue Sage Hideaway turns gold and orange, and there’s genuinely no need to drive anywhere to enjoy it — hot tub included.
Fall books up fast here, for good reason. If you’re thinking about a leaf-peeping trip, don’t wait too long to lock in your dates, there might be a couple dates open still!
